The Farrington Governors received balanced scoring in topping St. Francis 41-35 in a first-round game of the Snapple/HHSAA Girls Division II State Basketball Tournament at Damien on Wednesday.
Setita Prescott, Shaylen Tatupu-Timu and Shay Cabato-Machado scored eight points for the Governors (7-8), who will face top seed Hawaii Baptist in a quarterfinal game at 7:30 p.m. today at Damien.
Kawena Kalani had 12 points and 11 rebounds and Julianne Johnson grabbed 11 rebounds for the Saints (8-8), who will face Waipahu in a consolation game at 3:30 p.m. today at Damien.
Waimea 59, Waipahu 48
Kaye Serapio had 23 points and 14 rebounds, Kierstin Gummerus added 22 points and the Menehune (11-3) used just six players in topping the Marauders (6-7).
Waimea led 41-38 after three quarters before pulling away in the fourth by outscoring Waipahu 18-10.
The Menehune will face fourth-seeded Hawaii Prep in a quarterfinal game at 5:30 p.m. today at Damien.
Anna Penitusi had 14 points and 12 rebounds, Mia DePonte added 14 points and nine rebounds and Hunter Quemado scored 10 for the Marauders, who will play St. Francis in a consolation game.
University 54, Ka‘u 40
Tyra Goo Sun had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Tia Akasaki chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds for the Junior Rainbows (10-4), who will face second-seeded Seabury in a quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. today at Kalani.
University broke away from Ka‘u after a 22-all halftime tie by outscoring the Trojans 21-9 in the third period.
Reishalyn Jara scored 17 points and Heidi Vidal 12 for the Trojans (5-8), who will play Kamehameha-Hawaii at 3 p.m. at Kalani.
Hanalani 44, Kamehameha-Hawaii 28
Keila Tsutsui scored 14 points to lead the Royals (12-2) over the Warriors (6-6) at Kalani.
Hanalani will face third-seeded Castle in a quarterfinal game at 5 p.m. today at Kalani.
Mihalani Mortensen scored eight points to lead the Warriors, who play Ka‘u in a consolation game.
