Fire destroyed 60 percent of an abandoned single-story Pahoa house on Hawaii island this afternoon.
Firefighters arrived on scene at 2:38 p.m. after the 2:27 p.m. alarm and found smoke and flames throughout half the structure on Tiki Road in the Ainaloa subdivision.
Two bedrooms were actively burning when firefighters arrived, and most of the damage was contained to those rooms, with moderate smoke damage throughout the house, the Hawaii Fire Department said in a news release.
Ten county firefighters and three volunteer firefighters fought the blaze, bringing it under control at 3:01 p.m. and extinguishing it at 3:23 p.m.
