The fifth-ranked University of Hawaii women’s water polo team earned a pair of wins against ranked teams on Saturday in Los Angeles, knocking off No. 15 Loyola Marymount 19-17 in overtime, then beating No. 14 Fresno State 19-8.
Elyse Lemay-Lavoie led Hawaii (6-1) with nine goals on the day, while senior Irene Gonzalez and freshman Maxine Schaap added seven goals apiece.
Mackenzie leads HPU past Biola
Breanna Mackenzie poured in a game-high 20 points, guiding the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team to a 72-59 win over Biola on Saturday at the Blaisdell Arena.
The win was the eighth straight for the Sharks. Samantha Lambrigtsen added 15 points and Alysha Marcucci had 11 for HPU (15-5, 13-1 PacWest). Jazz Benn led the Eagles (9-11, 7-7).

Trevor Treinen led the Eagles (10-19, 6-7 PacWest) with 12 points. David Rowlands had 13 points to lead the Sharks (5-13, 2-11).
Hawaii’s David posts top score at Pipeline
Hawaii’s Kalani David posted the highest single-wave score of the day, notching a 7.67 out of 10 to advance at the Volcom Pipe Pro at Banzai Pipeline on Oahu’s North Shore.
The event will resume at 8 a.m. today if conditions permit.
Chaminade softball drops pair
The Chaminade softball team managed just a single run in its season-opening doubleheader, falling 2-1 and 7-0 on Saturday to Rollins College at Sand Island Field.
Michelle Sasaki scored the lone Chaminade run on an error in the fifth inning of the first game. In the two games, Chaminade managed just three total hits.
Hawaii Pacific sweeps doubleheader
The HPU baseball team piled up 20 total runs in its doubleheader sweep against Howard Payne on Saturday at Hans L’Orange Field.
In the first game, Sean Coffey led the way, going 3-for-5 with a pair of runs as HPU (3-0) won 10-9. In the second game, Trey Yukumoto went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs and RBIs in a 10-3 win.
