A circuit judge revoked bail for a 41-year-old man
accused of shooting his 31-year-old girlfriend in
Kahaluu.
Bronson Gouveia appeared Monday at his arraignment at Circuit Court before Judge Shirley Kawamura on a second-degree attempted murder charge in connection with the December shooting. He also was charged with two firearm infractions.
His attorney, Michael Green, entered not-guilty pleas to the charges on
Gouveia’s behalf.
Kawamura set his trial for April. Gouveia is being held without bail at the Oahu Community Correctional Center.
Police said Gouveia shot his girlfriend with a semi-automatic gun at a residence in Kahaluu on Dec. 23 and fled in a vehicle. The victim was taken in serious condition to a hospital.
Police arrested Gouveia on Jan. 21 in the Helemano area on a $1 million grand jury bench warrant.
At Monday’s arraignment Kawamura granted the state’s request to hold Gouveia without bail because he poses a danger to the community and is a flight risk.
He has a criminal record of 22 convictions, 14 of which are for felonies. Gouveia is also facing federal drug and firearm charges.
Soon after he fled in the December shooting, authorities executed a search warrant at his home on Waihee Road where they recovered approximately 1,380 grams of methamphetamine and two rifles, according to court documents.
