Gamers unite!
If you’re wondering where, check out the Hawai‘i Pacific University eSports Arena at Aloha Tower Marketplace. The approximately 3,000-square-foot arena is equipped with 25 gaming computers, 13 console stations, two virtual reality stations and an ultra-wide-screen computer monitor.
Games offered include “Super Smash Brothers Ultimate,” “Red Dead Redemption II,” “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4,” “Madden NFL 19” and “Super Mario Party” — all in a lively, kid-friendly environment, said Reed Pasatiempo, HPU eSports Arena manager.
“Many families in the community enjoy the HPU eSports Arena for outings with their families and friends and for birthday parties,” Pasatiempo said. “In addition to the gaming computers, console stations and VR stations, groups use the meeting rooms as part of party packages to eat together, open gifts and hang out.”
“On Tuesday nights, people take part in the fun of ‘Fortnite Tuesdays’ for a $5 entry fee, which includes a prize for the person with the most points,” Pasatiempo added.
HPU’s eSports Arena opened in the fall of 2017 and is the state’s first collegiate eSports arena. It’s home court for the university’s varsity eSports team, which competes nationally in the West Coast Conference, College League of Legends season.
