Japanese tennis pro Kei Nishikori, above, drew a crowd during an appearance at the Uniqlo store at Ala Moana Center last month. Nishikori’s play on the courts also was a highlight of Hawaii tennis in 2018. The year featured former Mililani star Alyssa Tobita, below left, ending her collegiate career at Oregon at the NCAA Championship while also winning her professional debut. In December, Nishikori, below right, and Elise Mertens captured titles at the Hawaii Open at Blaisdell Arena. The finalists said they would return in 2019.
