Seven residents — two adults and five children — were not home when the fire was reported at 7:33 p.m. Saturday. Six HFD units, staffed with 22 personnel, arrived three minutes later and observed heavy smoke; they entered the apartment and brought the blaze under control at 7:59 p.m.
The fire was reported extinguished at 8:43 p.m.
HFD said the fire remains under investigation and a cause has yet to be determined. The Hawaii chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
