Recently, I read with amusement about the war zone I live in (“Amid bombardment, no law enforcement,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Jan. 5). What seems to have been missed by the squeaky wheels is that the people have spoken. That is why law enforcement turns a blind eye to the issue.
As for terrorist “bullies,” I believe it is the fireworks opponents who are the bullies. They cannot even give up a single night a year? No compromise can be found? Lazy.
When I last visited Colorado, they had split up into yes/no fireworks zones. Take a staycation in Waikiki, visit a friend or relative in a fire-free zone, or just be an adult, grow some skin, and realize we all live here.
Sometimes we must sacrifice a little to get along on a tiny island. I volunteer to witness your hyperinflated “ear-shattering, eye-watering, throat-burning, eight-hour ordeal.” My cats were locked safe inside and under the bed. Take some personal responsibility. I also live in Kailua. We see the same thing very differently.
