New Food Pantry store will anchor Waikiki apartment complex

The Queen Emma Land Co. announced it has signed a long-term lease with Food Pantry, which will occupy 27,000 square feet on two floors off Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki.

Food Pantry Ltd. will reopen a full-service grocery store at Lilia Waikiki upon completion of a rental project in mid-2021.

Brookfield Properties, which is developing the project on land owned by Queen Emma Land Co., has signed a long-term lease with Food Pantry.

The store, which will be called “The Market at Waikiki,” is part of the apartment complex expected to break ground in the first half of the year at the store’s current location on the corner of of Kuhio Avenue and Kanekapolei Street. The development will include 455 units with Food Pantry as its anchor.

The Food Pantry store on Kuhio will close March 31. Food Pantry also has a second location on Hobron Lane in Waikiki.

Brookfield Properties said the revitalization of the area is estimated to create 600 development and construction jobs as well as 90 permanent operational positions providing longterm economic stimulus.

Bank of Hawaii has announced the following new senior vice presidents:

>> Momi Akimseu, president and community and employee engagement manager for Bank of Hawaii Foundation, was recently promoted to senior vice president from vice president. She became the Marketing Division’s vice president and manager when she joined Bank of Hawaii in November 2012. Prior to that she served as communications and tourism brand manager at Hawaii Tourism Authority for eight years.

>> Joy Ishiara was promoted to senior vice president and brand and e-commerce marketing manager from vice president and brand, advertising and promotions manager. She joined the bank as a brand administrator in 2007 and was later promoted in 2014 as a vice president and brand, advertising and promotions manager. Prior to Bank of Hawaii, Ishiara worked at PacRim Marketing Group and Central Pacific Bank.

Correction: An earlier version of the story said Queen Emma Land Co. had signed a long-term lease with Food Pantry. The lease was actually executed with Brookfield Properties, which is developing the project on land owned by Queen Emma Land Co.
