New Year’s Eve 2018 produced relatively few fireworks-related problems, according to statistics released today from the Honolulu Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services.

HFD responded to 11 fireworks-related calls between 8 a.m. on New Year’s Eve to 7 a.m. New Year’s Day, according to a report circulated by HFD spokesman Capt. Scot Seguirant.

Two of the calls were medical in nature. The remaining nine involved minor brush and rubbish fires.

The calls were concentrated between 8:18 p.m. on Monday to 1:43 a.m. on Tuesday and spanned the areas of Kaimuki, Kalihi, Makaha, Wahiawa, Makaha, Kapolei and Waianae.

EMS responded to four fireworks-related injuries and 39 calls related to breathing difficulties.

In non-fireworks-related calls, paramedics were also called to respond to 21 assaults and 23 motor vehicle collisions.
