The Hawaiian Humane Society said sales of Neuter Now certificates, which offer reduced-fee spay and neuter services for pet cats and dogs, will resume on Wednesday.

Last month, city officials announced it would stop selling the certificates in December because the program, which is run at a cost of $500,000 annually, had run out of funds after some had been diverted to address a problem with free-roaming cats. The Society administers the program for the city, which is available at 25 participating vet clinics across Oahu.

The cost of a Neuter Now certificate is $40 for a male cat, $50 for a female cat, $125 for a male dog and $150 for a female dog. The certificate covers a pre-survey exam, anesthesia and surgery. Individuals with Electronic Benefit Transfer and Medicaid cardholders, as well as residents receiving housing assistance, may purchase certificates for a reduced rate of $20.

Certificates are available for purchase at the city’s satellite city halls, at the Hawaiian Humane Society’s Moiliili campus or online.
