Las Vegas Advisor: New Year’s fireworks set to dazzle Vegas

Upward of 80,000 pyrotechnic devices controlled by 10,000 electrical circuits will explode just after midnight on New Year’s Eve from the roofs of seven Las Vegas Strip casinos: MGM Grand, Planet Hollywood, Aria, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, the Venetian and Stratosphere. The show will last eight minutes and will be accompanied by “Auld Lang Syne,” “Luck Be a Lady,” and “All Night Long.” The display that will feature almost 167 fireworks going off every second is expected to be broadcast on several national feeds. As always, the Strip will be blocked off and filled with revelers, while a second party will run downtown at the Fremont Street Experience. An estimated 318,000 visitors are expected to come to town to celebrate.

Total Rewards Changing: Caesars Entertainment’s Total Rewards players club is being rebranded. Starting Feb. 1, new players club cards with the new name, Caesars Rewards, will be available at any Caesars Rewards Center. In the letter sent to members, Caesars writes, “All the current benefits will remain the same.”

Copperfield No. 1: According to Forbes’ annual list of the seven richest magicians, Las Vegas claims the top three: David Copperfield earned $61 million between June 1, 2017, and June 1, 2018; Penn and Teller came in second at $30 million; and Criss Angel placed third at $16 million. Copperfield has won the financial sweepstakes for several years in a row; he performs 15 shows every week at MGM Grand.

Question: What happened to bets on the college football game that was canceled last week?

Answer: Sports books require that games reach a specified length of play for bets to have action, otherwise a game is ruled no contest. Last week’s First Responder Bowl was canceled after less than one quarter of play, well below any book’s time requirement, meaning all bets (at legal sports books) were canceled and money refunded.
