The news of increasing property values, which means an increase of property taxes, makes me wonder how it will affect my monthly rent.
I retired 20 years ago after working for a private company. I started with wages of $1.25 an hour and after 30 years, I reached my top pay of $16.36 an hour. My pension was $1,482 a month and does not increase a single penny.
Today, I am paying $1,400 for rent alone, which leaves me $82 monthly. What little I get from my Social Security (FICA), I pay for my other necessary expenses, telephone and internet, cable and food.
Bottom line: Should my rent be increased and I am not able to pay the amount, I assume I will be evicted and become a homeless person. Please help me find information on how I can qualify for a homeless shelter and meals if it should come to that stage.
