Wailuku woman turns herself in to police after deadly hit-and-run

A 55-year-old Wailuku woman turned herself in to police in connection with a deadly hit-and-run that occurred in Kihei on Christmas Day.

Police seized a green Geo Tracker Thursday, the vehicle suspected of being involved in the crash that fatally struck Stacy Jackson on Piilani Highway near Kaonoulu Street. The vehicle owner also turned herself in on the same day officers seized her Geo, according to a Maui Police Department news release.

Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of accidents involving death or injury. She was released pending further investigation.

Police said a Harley Davidson operated by a 50-year-old Kihei man was traveling southbound on Piilani Highway at approximately 6:25 p.m. when the motorcycle struck a rock.

Upon impact, the motorcycle passenger later identified as Jackson fell onto the roadway.

Police said a vehicle struck her and fled.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unclear whether speed, drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call officer Aaron Williams of the police department’s Vehicle Homicide Unit at 808-244-6365.
