A man and woman in a stolen vehicle Thursday afternoon were followed by police until they ended up in Kaneohe, where they were arrested after striking multiple vehicles while trying to flee, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
Police said the pair, a 24-year-old male driver and a 22-year-old female passenger, were followed from the west side of the island and were at first unaware they were being pursued by officers.
When they realized they were being pursued, they tried to escape and struck other vehicles before coming to a stop, police said.
Officers shut down one lane of Kamehameha Highway near Pua Inia Street after the suspects struck multiple vehicles, police said.
They arrested the pair at 3:04 p.m. The man was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a motor vehicle and criminal property damage, resisting arrest and probation revocation. The woman was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, promoting a dangerous drug and for a contempt warrant.
They were transported to the Kapolei police station, where they are being held.
