A 39-year-old Ewa Beach man is in police custody under suspicion of felony possession of illegal fireworks.
Honolulu police arrested the man at a traffic enforcement checkpoint in Kapolei at midnight Sunday. The checkpoint was on Kualakai Parkway just before the H-1 freeway overpass.
Possessing illegal fireworks is a Class C felony, punishable by up to five years in prison, if the total weight of the fireworks is 25 pounds or more.
Minivan hits man in crosswalk
A 65-year-old man went to the hospital in serious condition Saturday after getting hit by a minivan on Kamehameha Highway in Kahaluu.
Police said the man was crossing the roadway at the Kahekili Highway intersection in a marked crosswalk when the minivan struck him at about 6:45 p.m.
No one in the minivan was injured.
Police do not suspect speeding or alcohol use on the part of the driver.
