Rise in illegal dumping on Kauai
A spike in illegal dumping at recycling sites has prompted Kauai County officials to warn that anyone caught faces a fine of up to $1,000.
People have been observed dumping furniture, appliances, vehicle components, pallets, paints, electronics and bagged trash at the recycling sites, according to county officials.
Only the following are accepted at those sites:
>> Source-separated cardboard
>> Mixed paper/newspaper
>> Glass jars and bottles
>> Plastic bottles and jars
>> Aluminum and steel cans
Commercially generated recyclables can be taken to Garden Isle Disposal’s Nawiliwili warehouse during regular hours Monday to Saturday. The service is free.
To report illegal dumping, call the County Recycling Office at 241-4841 or the Kauai Police Department at 241-1711.
