A moped which was involved in an accident was left on the side of Ala Moana Boulevard today.

Police have reopened all lanes on Ala Moana Boulevard near Piikoi Street following a serious moped crash.

An Emergency Medical Services report said the moped rider, a 78-year-old man, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but police said his condition later improved to serious condition.

Police briefly closed two Ewa-bound lanes of Ala Moana Boulevard between Piikoi and Auahi streets to investigate and reopened the roadway after the patient’s condition improved.

The EMS report said the moped rider apparently lost control after possibly coming into contact with a vehicle.

Police initially said the incident involved a moped rider and a pedestrian, but a pedestrian was not involved. Police said the crash happened about 1 p.m. near Nauru Tower at 1330 Ala Moana Blvd.
