The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued a high-surf warning on Saturday for north- and west-facing shores of Oahu, Kauai, Molokai and Niihau as well as the north-facing shores of Maui.

The high-surf warning is in effect through 6 a.m. Monday due to a large northwest swell that was expected to arrive Saturday afternoon and peak today. Surf will gradually lower tonight.

Surf was expected to reach 20 to 25 feet late Saturday afternoon, then rise to 35 feet today along north and west shores of Kauai and Niihau, along with north shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui.

Surf is expected to grow up to 28 feet today along the west shores of Oahu and Molokai.

The advisory warns of very strong, breaking waves and strong longshore, rip currents. The advisory also warns beachgoers to exercise caution and heed the advice given by Ocean Safety officials.

“Anyone entering the water could face significant injury or death,” the advisory warns.
