Four players scored in double figures for Western Oregon on Friday as the Wolves defeated Hawaii Hilo 80-69 at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.
Brandell Evans had 16 points to lead the Wolves (7-1), Riley Hawken added 15, Cameron Cranston had 12 and Kaleb Warner 11. Devin Johnson had a season-high 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the Vulcans (3-4).
Hawaii Pacific to host tournament
The Hawaii Pacific men’s basketball team will host the Hoops in Hawaii D2 Power Invitational, which will feature some of the best teams in Division II basketball from Sunday through Tuesday at the Hawaii Convention Center.
The eight-team field is made up of No. 7 UC San Diego, No. 11 Southern Nazarene and No. 20 Chaminade, as well as Western Washington and Western Oregon, which both received votes in this week’s D-II poll, and Dallas Baptist, which opened the season ranked 16th. Also included is Emmanuel College, the National Christian College Athletic Association 2018 national champion.
Chaminade opens the tournament vs. Western Washington at 5:45 p.m. Sunday and HPU follows against UCSD at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $20 for the general public, $10 for Hawaii residents, and $5 for HPU students and faculty (with school ID). Admission is free for anyone 18 and under.
