A high surf advisory for the east-facing shores of most isles has been extended to 6 p.m. Friday, according to weather officials.

The National Weather Service said strong trades will continue to produce rough surf along the east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island. Surf is expected to reach 6 to 10 feet high along those shores through the remainder of the work week, and although they may drop slightly later today and tonight, they are expected to increase again on Thursday.

Expect strong, breaking waves, shore break and strong rip currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous. Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should exercise caution and heed all advice given by ocean safety officials.

A small craft advisory for the waters of Kauai, Oahu, Maui and the Big Island, also remains in effect through 6 p.m. Friday.

Forecasters expect wet and windy weather to continue through Thursday as a strong, high-pressure ridge lingers to the north of the Hawaiian isles. But wind speeds and showers are expected to diminish on Friday as it drifts eastward. Light winds and sunshine are forecast from Saturday through Monday.
