In Pakistan, as in many Muslim-dominant societies, women participate in a rigged society where the men are in charge and the women are second-class citizens. As long as tradition, religion and male leaders are in charge of the rules, things never will change there.
The rewards of the society we live in still favor men in terms of who our leaders are as well as how much pay we receive. More egalitarian rules and laws such as minimum wage laws do not favor one person over another based on sex, religion or race.
I’m in favor of a higher minimum wage in Hawaii, not just because we live in a state with a high cost of living, but because it is fair for all workers (“Lawmakers noncommittal on minimum wage hike,” Star-Advertiser, Nov. 26).
Lucky we live in Hawaii and in the U.S.A.
