Damage estimate for Aiea duplex fire rises
A fire that displaced 11 people from an Aiea duplex on Monday caused more damage than initially estimated.
According to the Honolulu Fire Department, the fire caused $370,000 to the structure and $30,000 to its contents. An earlier estimate placed damage to the structure at $3oo,000.
Five men, five women and an infant reportedly lived at the duplex at 99-1068 Kahua Place. One man sustained minor burns to his foot after stepping on hot glass. No other injuries were reported.
HFD dispatched 30 firefighters from six units to combat the blaze, which was extinguished at 5:02 p.m.
