I’m a Republican, but we were very disappointed about the article, “Crushing loss for Republicans” (Star-Advertiser, Nov. 11).
First, it should not have been on the front page, since the outcome of the election was not news at all. Yes, it was very unfortunate for us Republicans, but we expected Gov. David Ige to win since he was the much better qualified candidate. We knew the people of Hawaii would vote for Ige.
Yes, our Andria Tupola is an extremely energetic person, but she just did not have the depth, experience and qualification to run our state. Unfortunately, she couldn’t even coordinate with her running mate, Marissa Kerns, for the TV debate; we were very disappointed.
We all need to accept the fact that we need to have a better Republican candidate the next time around. Yes, Republicans can still win here in Hawaii if you have qualified Republicans such as Gov. Linda Lingle and Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona, who served for eight full years.
