Motorcyclist dies after crash in Maili
A 49-year-old motorcyclist who was critically injured in Friday’s two-vehicle crash in Maili has died.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified him as Michael Gonsalves III of Waianae. The cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries and the manner of death was classified as an accident.
Police said a motorcycle operated by a 49-year-old man later identified as Gonsalves was traveling west on Farrington Highway when he was struck by a van exiting a gas station at the intersection of Hookele Street at approximately 6 p.m. Friday.
Gonsalves was taken in critical condition to a trauma hospital where he died Sunday.
Police said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the van, 63, did not sustain any injuries.

Police said speed and alcohol were not factors.
This is the 59th traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared to 40 at the same time last year.
