Chaminade guard Destiny Castro was named the PacWest women’s basketball player of the week on Monday. She is the first Silversword to earn the honor since Brittnee Fonnesbeck in March 2007.
The 5-foot-6 junior totaled 33 points, including a career-high five 3-pointers, and 10 rebounds in Wednesday’s 79-77 win over Minot State.
The Silverswords (1-2) open PacWest action against Fresno Pacific at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at McCabe Gymnasium.

The 5-foot-10 Australian led the Sharks with averages of 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 0.5 steals per game during the D-II Coast-to-Coast Classic at Alaska-Anchorage last week.
HPU resumes play Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against Hawaii Hilo at Moanalua High School.

The 6-foot-4 Australian helped the Sharks earn their second win of the season against Oakland City 74-53 on Nov. 20 with three 3-pointers and four rebounds in 17 minutes.
The Sharks (2-1) face UH Hilo on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Moanalua.
Pro soccer to return to Hawaii in 2019
The Pacific Rim Cup will bring professional soccer back to Honolulu in 2019.
World-class soccer leagues from different countries will compete for the championship during four matches on Feb. 8 and 10 at Aloha Stadium.
The semifinal games on Feb. 8 are at 5:30 and 8:15 p.m. The third-place match will be at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 10, followed by the championship at 5:15 p.m.
The participating teams will be announced later this year. Tickets will go on sale Monday.
