FULLERTON, Calif. >> Fresno State guard Deshon Taylor scored 20 points, including 13 in the second half, to defeat Hawaii, 79-64, in the final round of the John Wooden Legacy basketball tournament.

The Rainbow Warriors finished in fourth place at 1-2 in the four-day event, dropping to 4-3 overall. The ’Bows conclude the road trip with Wednesday’s game against UCLA in Pauley Pavilion.

In a three-stage strategy, the Bulldogs used a full-court press, outside shooting and then drives to subdue the ’Bows.

The Bulldogs commited more fouls (19 to 16), but made more free throws (16 to 12). Taylor hit all six of his free throws.

Taylor, who joined Fresno State as a walk-on transfer from Missouri-Kansas City three years ago, was able to beat defenders on dribble penetration. In the spring, Taylor opted not to apply for the NBA draft and return for his senior season.

Five ’Bows scored in double figures, led by Jack Purchase’s 14.
