It is so depressing to read about potential monies not being collected by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources (“Land of the free,” Star-Advertiser, Nov. 18), when such funds could be used to address so many of our problems: homelessness, education, deteriorating roads, highways and infrastructure, senior affordable rentals — you name it.

The answer was in David Shapiro’s column (“Lt. Gov. needs a real job or save us the big salary,” Star-Advertiser, Volcanic Ash, Nov. 18): Put our lieutenant governor in charge of addressing and fixing the problems at the DLNR.
