Today’s Thanksgiving feasts will surely have the obligatory turkey and pumpkin pie — but for at least 11 states on the mainland, avoid salads with romaine lettuce.
Another E. coli outbreak has sickened 32 people in 11 states as well as 18 people in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. This outbreak recalls an earlier one this spring, traced to the Yuma, Ariz., growing area, as well as one in fall 2017.
So far, fortunately, Hawaii is not among states with reported cases. But because the source is still unknown, the FDA called on supermarkets and restaurants to withdraw romaine products until the contamination can be identified. That green-bean casserole is looking better and better.
