Oh boy, after the University of Hawaii football Warriors’ Thanksgiving miracle win at Aloha Stadium, I could hardly wait to rush to your paper’s reports on all the last-quarter heroics (“The comeback kid,” Star-Advertiser, Nov. 18). But wait a minute; long ago, I developed the habit of getting off to a good start every week by reading David Shapiro’s “Volcanic Ash” column first thing every Sunday morning.
Remembering Aristotle’s dictum that virtues are acquired by good habits, I decided to read Dave first again as usual, and then pore over the Sports page to relive the heroics. It was all so satisfying, and reminded me that Thanksgiving Day fast approaches with its cornucopia of good feelings.
Lucky we live Hawaii!
