Thanks for the recent letter on the great need for flood control of the Ala Wai Canal, especially noting the more than $200 million for “improvements” from the U.S. Senate (“Ala Wai flood control a necessary project,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Oct. 27).
This is good news, yes. What would be still better news is, when, oh when, will it start? I seem to recall an earlier Star-Advertiser article about congressional millions that were allotted years ago, with no subsequent application.
You can have multiple committee meetings and public forums on the virtues or negatives of a midway Ala Wai bridge — but of far more importance is the potential flood damage to life, property and our economy. Please don’t let this be another Waikiki Natatorium “Ring around the Rosie” going nowhere.
