Hawaiian Airlines this morning announced a $5 increase for checked baggage fees for its flights to and from the U.S. mainland.

The price to check first and second bags on the airline’s flights between North America and Hawaii is going up by $5 to $30 and $40, respectively. Those higher fees apply to main cabin tickets purchased or voluntarily changed, beginning today.

Checked baggage fees for neighbor island flights will not change, nor will discounts and complimentary allowances for HawaiianMiles members. Passengers on international flights may still check two bags at no charge.

Hawaiian Airlines joins several other U.S. airlines who also raised the checked baggage fees to $30 this year, including American, Delta, United and Alaska Airlines.

Hawaiian said its checked baggage fees for North America were last revised in 2012. Previous fees will remain in place for guests traveling on tickets purchased through Nov. 12. Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard primary cardmembers who purchase flights to North America directly from the airline are still eligible to check in the first bag for free.
