Japan retained its hold on the Asia-Pacific Junior Cup Tuesday, defeating Hawaii 18-14 in the 12th annual junior team competition between the finest juniors in Japan and Hawaii.
Japan held a 9.5-6.5 advantage going into the final day at Waikoloa Kings’ Course. Ten of the 16 singles matches went the distance on a windy Tuesday, with three halved.
Hawaii winners Tuesday were Peter Jung, Kolbe Irei, Karissa Kilby, Jake Sequin, Pono Yanagi and Noah Koshi. Davis Lee, Myah McDonald and Kyung Eun Lee halved their matches.
Rules workshops coming up
The Hawaii State Golf Association and Hawaii State Women’s Golf Association are accepting sign-ups for their Rules of Golf workshops, which will focus on the major changes in the 2019 Rules of Golf.
The HSGA will have eight workshops in December on four islands. The first two are at Koolau on Dec. 1, and the next two at King Kamehameha on Maui on Dec. 9. Two workshops will be held at the HGEA office on Kauai on Dec. 16 and another two Dec. 23 at Queens Marketplace in Waikoloa.
Signup deadlines are the Mondays prior to the workshops. Morning and afternoon sessions are offered. To sign up, go to hsga.golf and link to “seminars.”
The HSWGA Golf Rules Study Sessions will be Jan. 14 (Oahu Country Club), Jan. 23 (Leilehua) and Jan. 26 (Mid-Pacific CC).
