Letters to the editor should have at least a modicum of facts.
For example, Sara Marshall wrote that President Donald Trump withdrew “from treaties and alliances that have been bought with American blood”; that “basically, (Trump) listens to (Russian President Vladimir Putin’s) advice”; and that the U.S. “kowtows” to Moscow (“America should stand for justice,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Oct. 30).
Where does she get this erroneous information?
Factually, the U.S. under Trump withdrew from the grossly unequal Trans-Pacific Partnership trade alliance, the Paris Agreement on climate change and the Iran nuclear deal. One had not yet been signed and the other two not ratified by our Congress as required by law. No military alliance that has resulted from blood loss of Americans has changed.
When did Trump listen to Putin’s advice? The only agreement the two have in common is they negotiated to withdraw Iran’s troops from the Golan Heights to avoid escalation of the Middle East war. When and how did we kowtow to Moscow? No wonder opposing parties disagree.
