Newly formed supergroup The Big Swell, featuring Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir (Grateful Dead) and George Porter Jr. (The Meters), along with several others, will present “Rising Up to Paradise: New Year’s Eve on Kauai” at the Crazy Rooster Ranch Dec. 31. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Hanalei Initiative and Earthjustice, two environmental nonprofits.
The outdoor bash’s headliners are The Big Swell, which also features Jeff Chimenti (Dead & Company, Fare Thee Well), Steve Kimock (The Other Ones, Rhythm Devils, Zero), Robin Sylvester (Ratdog) and Wally Ingram (Timbuk 3).
The Dirty Knobs with Mike Campbell (a founding member of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers), Taj Mahal and local band Island Grass are also scheduled to perform.
Tickets — $300; $600 and $2,000 VIP — went on sale Wednesday. The concert is promoted by CID Entertainment, a company specializing in VIP and travel packages connected to festivals and musical events.
