A 29-year-old man has been released pending investigation after his arrest Thursday in connection with the death of a 22-year-old man who was found unresponsive in the Tantalus area.

Police said the suspect was released Friday while the investigation continues.

The suspect turned himself in at the Honolulu Police Department’s Alapai headquarters at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday where he was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of Mackfik Kolman.

Police said a passerby found Kolman unresponsive in the bushes near the 3800 block of Tantalus Drive on the afternoon of Oct. 14. Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and pronounced him dead.

Police initially opened an unattended death case but reclassified the case to murder after suspicious head injuries were discovered.

Police and CrimeStoppers issued a bulletin last week seeking the public’s help in locating witnesses or anyone with information involving Kolman’s death.
