Police raid uncovers cocaine, marijuana at Kona scooter rental shop
Hawaii island police recovered cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia Tuesday during raids on a Kailua-Kona scooter rental business and the business owner’s private residence.
Area II vice officers executed a search warrant at the Alii Drive shop after receiving complaints from the public about narcotics distribution. Officers recovered 2.3 grams of cocaine and 58 grams of marijuana packaged for distribution. They arrested John Haley, 39, on suspicion of first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, first-degree promotion of a detrimental drug and second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug.
The officers next executed a search warrant at Haley’s Kupuna Street residence, where they recovered 315.5 grams of marijuana packaged for distribution and a digital scale with trace amounts of cocaine on it. There they also arrested Julianna Jochumson, 20, on suspicion of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. The additional charges were also added to Haley’s arrest. Both were charged Tuesday with the respective offenses.
Haley is being held in lieu of $72,250 bail. Jochumson was released after posting $2,275 bail.
