The recent approval of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court should not be felt like a win or loss for either side.
Guilty or not of the alleged misconduct with which he was charged is not the whole picture. The resulting political bullying and maneuvering by President Donald Trump, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell and others is a part of it, too.
A position for the highest court of our nation should not be promoted on political forums. The Democratic side, justifiably resentful that the well-qualified Merrick Garland wasn’t even given the courtesy of a hearing, didn’t distinguish itself either.
A Supreme Court justice must keep personal political bias out of any decision. One party pushing so hard for this confirmation is disturbing. Will it bias the jurist? Any future decision could be suspect.
Both sides should have equal weight in choosing and deciding in a statesman-like way.
