Alcohol a factor in late-night Likelike Highway crash that injured 5, police say
Five people were injured — one man critically — in a single-vehicle Likelike Highway crash Wednesday that police said involved alcohol.
Police said a sport utility vehicle driven by an 18-year-old man was traveling Kaneohe-bound near 45-1500 Likelike Highway when he lost control and struck a center guardrail at about 11 p.m. The vehicle flipped over several times and came to rest on the Honolulu-bound lanes of the roadway.
The driver and three passengers were taken to a hospital in good condition, but a 24-year-old male passenger who was seated in a rear seat was treated by Emergency Medical Services paramedics and transported in critical condition.
Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash, but it is unknown whether speeding was involved. The investigation is ongoing.
