Before the city proceeds with plans to build a bridge across the Ala Wai Canal at University Avenue, it should consider the impact on the existing neighborhood resources on the mauka side of the canal (“Proposed Ala Wai bridge wins support at meeting,” Star-Advertiser, Sept. 23).

At risk are the children’s playground, the canoe paddlers’ staging area, the basketball courts, the softball fields, the community garden and the lovely old shade trees. All of these will be threatened by the increased traffic and noise that this unnecessary project will create.
