No prison for ex-teacher accused of sexual assaults
A former preschool teacher accused of sexually assaulting two young girls has accepted a plea deal that will result in him getting no prison time.
Kaleb Acklin, 30, pleaded no contest in state court Friday in two separate cases to four counts of third-degree sexual assault. As part of the deal, Circuit Judge B.K. Wong has agreed to sentence Acklin to five years of probation in December.
An Oahu grand jury indicted Acklin in 2013 on one court of first-degree sexual assault for 2011 incident involving a 4-year-old girl he was babysitting. The prosecutor agreed to allow Acklin to plead no contest to the reduced third-degree sexual assault.
While that case was still pending another grand jury indicted Acklin last year on first-degree sexual assault and three counts of third-degree sexual assault between 2009 and 2011 involving a 6-year-old girl. Acklin pleaded no contest to the third-degree sexual assault charges. The prosecutor agreed to drop the first-degree sexual assault charge.
