Police arrest man in connection with fatal Haleiwa shooting

Police arrested a 22-year-old man around 6:30 a.m. this morning on a charge of murder for his possible role in the shooting.

The Honolulu Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in Haleiwa.

HPD Lt. Mark Matsusaka of the Criminal Investigations Division said a 40-year-old man was shot near the Haleiwa Beach Park at approximately 12:45 a.m. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded and provided advanced life-support to the victim, who was taken to Wahiawa General Hospital and pronounced dead.

Matsusaka said police arrested a 22-year-old man around 6:30 a.m. on a charge of murder for his possible role in the shooting.

Matsusaka said police shut down a portion of Kamehameha Highway near the beach park from 12:45 a.m. to 7 a.m. so they could investigate.
