Jim Wolery said that U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono’s comments were an embarrassment to herself and to the state of Hawaii (“Hirono’s comments an embarrassment,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Sept. 21).

As a woman, I completely disagree with his comments. I am so proud of Sen. Hirono for her actions and her brave comments. While watching her speak on TV, I couldn’t stop yelling, “Yes, yes, you go girl!”

I have the utmost respect for Sen. Hirono, and I am proud that she is Hawaii’s senator and represents the people of Hawaii in Congress.
