In response to Russel Noguchi (“Hirono’s language insults our values,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Sept. 24): President Donald Trump and his ilk have tried to terrorize women from having a voice, speaking truth to power regarding the rapes, the attempted rapes and other sexual assaults that men in power have thrust upon women, now and throughout the age.
Therefore, Sen. Mazie Hirono is actually being restrained in her advocacy for what is going on in this country, in the U.S. Senate and in the Senate Judiciary Committee. She is simply following a tradition in Hawaii of the warrior, a samurai who protects her people, even that of a follower of Buddha (whether she is or not) who stands in her calmness, steadfastness and power to face the enemy with veracity and strength. I have known Mazie since the time she was a practicing attorney.
Now, as then, she has consistently fought for what is right, for what is pono, making, I’m sure, our Patsy Mink proud.
