Last weekend’s 95th Big Island Amateur Golf Championship was the first opened up to golfers from off the island. Honolulu’s Davis Lee took full advantage, winning the championship at Mauna Lani’s North Course.
Lee opened with a 4-under-par 68 — the tournament’s only sub-par round — and no one caught him Sunday, when he closed with a 72. The Mid-Pacific Institute junior also captured the Mayor’s Cup championship earlier this month.
Lee’s 140 total was five better than Kamehameha senior Pono Yanagi (72-73). The Hilo resident claimed Big Island honors.
Kamuela’s Ken Zecchini (75—149) took third.
Hilo’s Kelly Whelan (74—151) took senior honors.
Other winners were Leobel Cumlat (A flight) and Seema Singh (low net).
The next Hawaii State Golf Association tournament is the HSGA Maui Amateur, at Wailea Golf Club Oct. 27-28. The Kauai Amateur was canceled because of Hurricane Lane.
Ko’olau offers yoga

The class runs from 4-6 p.m. and will be followed with German beers to celebrate Octoberfest. Cost is $50.
Goal of the class is to improve flexibility, range of motion, strength, balance, breathing, focus and the golf swing.
