Police seeking suspect who crashed truck on Kahekili Highway
Police continued well after sunset looking for an auto theft suspect who fled after the pickup truck he was driving flipped multiple times and crashed Tuesday afternoon on Kahekili Highway near the Hui Iwa Street side dip.
Honolulu Police Department Deputy Chief John McCarthy said that an auto theft and first-degree terroristic threatening case began in District 2, which covers Wahiawa and the North Shore and ended up in the Temple Valley area.
The suspect fled on foot after the truck flipped over multiple times.
The Specialized Services Division conducted a search for the suspect, McCarthy said.
A video of the incident was caught on a dash camera and posted by KHON-TV. The dramatic scene on a crowded highway during afternoon rush hour traffic showed the truck apparently speeding, flipping over multiple times and mowing down two light posts.
Traffic on Kahekili was contra-flowed. The highway was back open at around 9 p.m.
