Davis Lee held off Kolbe Irei to win the 35th Mayor’s Cup Sunday at Ala Wai Municipal. Lee opened with a 3-under-par 67 Saturday. A final-round 74 gave him a one-shot victory over Irei, who closed with a 67.
The result looked a lot like the last David S. Ishii/Hawaii State High School Championship. Lee, a junior at Mid-Pacific Institute, took third at states while Irei, a junior at Roosevelt, was fourth. Moanalua’s AJ Teraoka won the state championship, with Hawaii Baptist’s Noah Koshi second. Koshi got third Sunday at 70—143.
Mark Gaza (71—143) won overall honors in senior flight, capturing a scorecard playoff with Keith Nakamura (69—143). Nakamura took senior low net honors at 133.
The women’s champion was Kayli Bunyan (76—145), a shot ahead of defending champion Michelle Kim. Low net winner was Ye Won Ham, also at 133. Debra-Anne Murobayashi defended her senior women’s title with a low net score of 136.
A and B flight winners were Michael Wolfe (74—147) and Glenn Maeda (74—152).
