Cui bono — Who benefits? — is the Latin to identify crime suspects. Clearly the American people benefit from the anonymous resistance to President Donald Trump’s dangerous, self-serving impulses (“Trump blasts critical op-ed from anonymous senior official,” Star-Advertiser, Top News, Sept. 5).
This unnamed person is a patriot, not a coward. Only by remaining in the White House can he or she continue to protect us and the free world from Trump. History treated kindly “Deep Throat,” the then-anonymous source of critical information that forced President Richard Nixon’s resignation.
An interesting counterpoint to the “Me Too” movement is the “Not Me” chorus from the White House staff. Our only hope is that these are mostly from the resistance. Cui bono — or is Vice President Mike Pence the beneficiary when he replaces Trump?
