The silence of U.S. Sens. Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz concerning the fascist tactics of protesters at the Supreme Court confirmation hearings of Brett Kavanaugh is an affront to the decorum and fair play that has historically characterized the U.S. Senate.
The disingenuous actions of Hirono as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee are contrary to democratic due process and beneath the dignity of her office. Her Democratic colleagues’ disregard for dialogue is egregious in its arrogance.
None of the emails recently leaked with an “end-justifies-the-means” attitude has in any way revealed anything but a balanced and objective position by the nominee in spite of attempts to portray the opposite by out-of-context assertions.
The American people have elected a majority of Republican Senators, and the attempt of the minority to subvert their will by petty theatrics will be to no avail. The days of using the Judiciary to substitute for the legislative process must end.
