The value and necessity of an independent newspaper is demonstrated by the Star-Advertiser. With the slow but dangerous Hurricane Lane pre-empting time on local newscasts, I find that my daily paper is vital. It keeps me in touch with the rest of the world. It also keeps me informed about local events.

Lists of which offices and stores are closed have saved me from running around. Where I can find shelter, if necessary, could be life-saving knowledge.

I hope advertisers take note of how important the daily paper is to us. I hope that more people become subscribers. After all, if TV news is knocked out, the newspaper becomes much more than a handy wrap for trash. It would literally be a life-saver.
